From Problem to Product

A mobile exam prep platform for South African students
Context
South African students preparing for matric needed structured, step-by-step guidance on how to tackle past exam questions. The content existed, but without a product to deliver it, it wasn't reaching students effectively.
Challenge
The platform needed to work reliably for students with limited or unreliable data access, support a subscription model without degrading the free experience, and scale across subjects, grades, and syllabuses without requiring a rebuild.
Approach
We chose a Kotlin Multiplatform architecture from the outset so core logic could serve Android and future platforms from one codebase, modelled the content domain to support long-term growth, and built a dynamic question engine and gamified XP system to keep students engaged.
Delivery
A Kotlin Multiplatform mobile app with structured YouTube video delivery, a dynamic question engine, gamified XP tracking, offline-first Firebase/Firestore architecture, a subscription system, and a companion real-time analytics dashboard.
Outcome
A production-ready educational product ecosystem, live with real students, with a data model designed to scale across subjects, grades, and syllabuses, and full visibility into engagement and content performance.

A digital home for an ERC-funded international research network
Context
An ERC-funded international research network of 15 researchers spread across Europe needed more than a website — a way to represent their global team and organise years of academic output for both academic and public audiences.
Challenge
The content model had to handle several uneven types of academic output (books, articles, artworks, media engagements) per researcher, remain maintainable by non-technical academic staff after handover, and present credibly to funders and the public.
Approach
We modelled the domain around researchers and publication types rather than generic blog posts, built an interactive team map to communicate the network's international reach, and structured the information architecture so the team could add researchers and publications independently.
Delivery
A custom research platform with an interactive team map, per-researcher profiles, and structured publication workflows across books, articles, artworks, and public engagements.
Outcome
A polished, independently maintainable international academic web presence, live for a research network funded by the European Research Council.

Turning platform data into product decisions
Context
Once the AMPM learning platform launched, the team needed real visibility into how students were engaging — which subjects had the highest drop-off, and whether new users were returning after day one.
Challenge
Raw Firebase event data needed to become something a small, non-technical team could act on daily, without building a heavyweight BI stack the team didn't need.
Approach
We defined a focused set of product metrics — growth, retention, correctness, session duration — directly from the app's event data, and built a lightweight dashboard around those metrics rather than a general-purpose analytics tool.
Delivery
A React/TypeScript admin dashboard integrated with Firebase, tracking user growth, daily active users, answer correctness rates, and session durations, with date-range filtering and CSV export.
Outcome
The team can now make data-driven content and product decisions daily, seeing exactly where students struggle and how the platform performs.
